Nagpur: Noted Sitar exponent Bhupal Panshikar left a lasting impact on the audience by showcasing his prowess in presenting various raagas at Chitnavis Centre on Friday.
Performing at classical conclave ‘Mudra’, organized by GH Raisoni Sports and Cultural Foundation in association with Chitnavis Centre, Panshikar set the tone with skilful performance of raag Desh. He then presented Vande Mataram much to the delight of the connoisseurs of music.

He presented raag Jhinjhoti with aplomb and weaved a magic by deftly showing intricacies involved in the performance. He was accompanied on tabla by Sandesh Popatkar.

Panshikar started learning Sitar when he was 10 years old and there has been no looking back since then. A known figure in the world of music, he has performed in various cities over a period of time.

The Sitar artiste made it a point to communicate with the audience by asking them questions and their liking for classical music. He asked questions like “What do we do in classical music?”, “Why young generation should learn classical music?” and “What does classical music mean?”

Panshikar said classical music is a way in which a person can freely express. One can sing in any style. In music forms, one has to follow a style. However, one has to stick to rules when it comes to classical music, he added.

Mohan Sarvate, director of Chitnavis Centre and Mrunal Nayak, head of branding at Raisoni Group, felicitated Panshikar and Popatkar.

Classical singer Sadhana Shiledar, sitarist Avnendra Shewlikar, president of Rotary Club Rajeev Behl and advocate Kukde from Mehfil were present at the event.

’Mudra’ programmes will be organized at regular intervals to promote art and culture in the city. The next event will be held on May 1.
