While Left parties are trying to oust the Narendra Modi led government, the Congress party is engaged in undermining Opposition unity, Communist Party of India (CPI) State secretary Kanam Rajendran has said.

He was speaking at Janasamaksham 2019, organised under the aegis of the Alappuzha Press Club here on Saturday.

“The Opposition parties including the Left parties are trying to defeat the NDA government at the Centre. In Wayanad the BJP had lost its deposit in the last election. It cannot be considered as a contender there. But, by its actions, the Congress is trying to weaken the Opposition unity,” Mr. Rajendran said. 0The CPI State secretary said that the Left parties would try to increase their representation in Parliament by winning more seats in the Lok Sabha elections.

“The current political situation is almost the same as in 2004. We will expose the misrule of the NDA government in the last five years and highlight the achievements of the LDF government in the State. Our aim is to win maximum seats and increase the Left representation in Parliament,” he said.

Mr. Rajendran said that the Sabarimala issue would not impact the Lok Sabha polls.

On the amicus curiae report which blamed the State government for the August deluge, Mr. Rajendran said that the amicus curiae was neither an expert nor a judge. He said that the report was leaked during the elections with an ulterior motive.
