Madhuranagar will be a totally women-managed and women-centric station

Hyderabad Metro Rail’s Ugadi gift to womenfolk of the city is to rename the Madhuranagar metro station between Ameerpet and HiTec City route of Corridor III (Nagole to HiTec City or the ‘Blue Line’) ‘Taruni Madhuranagar’ on Saturday.

“It will be a totally women-managed and women-centric station where shops catering to their needs and those of children are going to be established. It could, perhaps, be the first ever metro station anywhere in the world dedicated to women,” said HMR managing director N.V.S. Reddy.

The MD said it was personally satisfying for him that the station was coming up in a beautiful manner and it was a step forward towards realising the broader vision of making Hyderabad Metro an ‘instrument of socio-economic change’.

Accessible to men too

While the station is accessible to men too, it will predominantly be developed into a hub of activities on the two-acre land around to promote gender equality and women empowerment. “We have lined up a lot many exciting programmes in the days ahead,” said Mr. Reddy.

A women-centric exhibition is to be opened shortly and will be on show for 60 days. As a prelude, there is an online competition on women empowerment and gender equality.

Entries can be submitted on https://hmrl.co.in, with topics covering celebration of womanhood, girl’s education, varied roles of a daughter, sister, wife and others.

Top women achievers in various fields would be invited to deliver talks, competitions for women and children would be held in painting, drawing, cooking, performing arts, rangoli, essays, elocution, music etc., said the MD.

Region-focus events of Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Northeast and so on would be held to reflect the multi-lingual character of the twin cities.

The proposed fair is to have 150 stalls with children’s play area, amusement rides, food courts, parking for 100 cars and 1,000 bikes with fool-proof security and fire safety norms. Entry will be free. For more queries, HMR Estate Manager Syed Abdul Majeed (7702800944) and general manager B. N. Rajeswar (8008456866) can be contacted.
