PUNE: A 40-year-old woman suffered injuries on her legs as she tried to prevent a robber from snatching her gold chain on Thursday morning on a hillock at Dukkar Khind along the Katraj-Dehu Road bypass when she was returning home after a walk.
The suspect snatched the woman’s gold chain along with a bluetooth-enabled device, collectively worth Rs41,200. The Warje Malwadi police have registered an offence of robbery against an unidentified suspect aged about 20 years. “We had detained two suspects for questioning in this regard. Our investigation is on,” said senior inspector Prakash Khandekar of the Warje Malwadi police.
The complainant is a homemaker living in Warje. Every morning, as a matter of routine she goes to the hillock at Dukkar Khind for a walk. “On Thursday, after finishing her walk around 8.30am, the woman was returning home when a youth started walking beside her,” Khandekar said.
All of a sudden, the youth snatched the woman’s gold chain. “Her bluetooth-enabled device was also snatched along with her chain. The woman began chasing the youth. She, however, lost her balance and fell down. The woman sustained injuries on her legs and had to abandon the chase,” Khandekar said.
Later, the woman lodged a police complaint. “She has given a description of the suspect. He had long hair and he was wearing a blue shirt and black pants,” he said.
The police suspect the involvement of a youth living in the slums near Dukkar Khind. After snatching one or two chains in the area the suspect usually goes underground and strikes again after a few days.
After the incident, the police plan to intensify patrolling in the area, Khandkar said.
