Gadchiroli: Kanhuji Lohambare, 61, a retired sub-inspector of Gadchiroli police, was appointed district president of BJP’s retired government official cell on Saturday at a meeting held by the sitting MP Ashok Nete.
The former cop was entrusted with the responsibility during BJP’s foundation day function held behind Nete's Chamorshi-based campaign office. Retired in 2017, Lohambhare said he joined BJP after being motivated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. “I am always available for the citizens when they approach me for some work at the police station, tehsil office, collectorate and even other places. If anyone is to be rushed to hospital or requires other assistance, local residents approach me. I feel good to help others which is also the reason for my joining politics,” he said.
Lohambhare, whose younger brother is still in the police force, had joined the department as a constable in 1984. “I had a couple of miraculous saves during encounters. I was assigned job to arrest many Maoists and also got few of them surrendered,” he said.
Regarding Maoists threat as he is a former cop and also a BJP worker as the party has launched operation 'Samadhan' against them, Lohambhare said there is no fear if one is dedicated to serve society and poor people. “They (Maoists) generally spare people who are not engaged in corruption or any wrongdoings,” he said.
