A man crawled into his six-year-old cousin's bed before he inappropriately touched her on the same day he was drinking with her mother and uncle.

The 31-year-old Queensland man - who cannot be named for legal reasons - shone a torch in the girl's face before he pulled down her pants on June 18, 2016.

He proceeded to touch her before he forced the girl's hands onto his genitals, Courier Mail reported.

Before he left, he took photos of his cousin on his phone - which he later deleted - and warned her to not tell anyone or else he would 'hurt her'.

Though the next morning, the girl told her mum about the attack.

At Southport District Court, Judge Katherine McGinness said the girl's impact statement showed the victim suffered nightmares.

'She appears to be a brave little girl who hopefully with the continued support of her parents will continue to thrive and hopefully put this behind her,' she said.

The 31-year-old was found guilty yesterday on two counts of indecent treatment of a child under 12, though was acquitted on a third charge of indecently treating a child.

The jury took only three-and-a-half hours to hand down a guilty verdict and the man was sentenced to 18 months in prison - with a suspension period of nine months.

'There was no physical harm, however, there was a threat made by you as to whether she told anybody,' she said.

'You were in a position of trust as her cousin.'

Barrister Ed Whitton noted the man had recently given up drinking.
