Shop owner held for selling duplicate phones, accessories
Vadodara: A mobile shop owner was held for selling duplicate mobile phones and iPhone accessories here on Friday. Duplicate items worth Rs15.9 lakh were seized from the accused Bhavin Soni’s shop on Gotri-Sevasi Road.

Detection of crime branch (DCB) sleuths raided Soni’s shop on the basis of specific information. Police found 57 refurbished iPhones and several duplicate accessories in his shop. The iPhones were of different models. Soni could not produce any documents for them.

Police said the accused was selling the refurbished iPhones as new ones and mobile cover, data cables and batteries among others as genuine accessories of iPhones.

Cops booked him for cheating and under various sections of Copyrights Act. He told police that he used to procure the accessories from a man in New Delhi. Police officials said they are interrogating him about the man in New Delhi.

A local court remanded him in police custody for four days on Saturday. Police sources said Soni was held in a similar offence last year too by prevention of crime branch. But after he came out on bail, he started the same business from a new location.
