Cong attacks BJP over ‘manifesto lie’

Bhubaneswar: As part of Congress’s nationwide initiative to sensitise voters to its manifesto for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the party here on Thursday hauled up the BJP at the Centre for not fulfilling promises made in its manifesto in 2014.
Addressing media persons here, Congress national spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said the BJP went back on its promises of creating two crore jobs every year and doubling the income of farmers. Chaturvedi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spending more time on television than working on his vision. She was also critical of the Centre for failing to contain terrorism.
Chaturvedi slammed BJP for criticising the Congress manifesto, released by party president Rahul Gandhi on April 2. The manifesto mentions the ambitious Nyuntam Aay Yojana (NYAY) as one of its key components, which entails the transfer of Rs 72,000 annually to the poorest 20% of households in the country.
“Our manifesto is the best. Farmers, women, youth and the jobless, among others, will get justice if Congress is voted to power. GST and demonetisation have had disastrous impact on the country. The Congress will simplify the new indirect tax,” Chaturvedi said.
BJP hit back and dubbed the manifesto as a big lie. “The Congress manifesto is an eyewash and poll gimmick. The manifesto has no clarity on many issues. Rahul is not clarifying as to how the Congress would arrange the funds to implement NYAY,” BJP leader Lekhasri Samantsinghar told journalists.
