39 polling booths in Kannur district face Maoist threat

1,079 booths identified as sensitive, 274 as hyper sensitive

As many as 39 polling booths of the total 1,857 booths in the Kannur Lok Sabha constituency have been identified as facing Maoist threat while 134 have been identified as critical.

An official press release issued here on Thursday said 25 of the 39 booths with Maoist threat were in the Peravur Assembly constituency.

Six were in Irikkur, five in Payyannur, two in Mattannur and one was in Koothuparamba. Special security measures were in place in such booths.

The release said that 1,079 booths had been identified as sensitive and 274 as hyper sensitive. Apart from security forces, arrangements such as webcasting and live video coverage would also be made as per requirement in each booth.

As many as 233 booths had been identified as vulnerable.
