  • A flight attendant who drank a 250ml of vodka and soda water has been sacked
  • She was released of her duties while flying from Sydney to Johannesburg
  • The Qantas employee told the Fair Work Commission sacking was unfair

A Qantas flight attendant who drank a quarter of a bottle of vodka while working on a flight from Sydney to Johannesburg has been sacked.

The flight attendant, who worked for Qantas for 31 years, was sacked in October after admitting to drinking a 250ml mix of vodka and soda water at the front of the plane while on a flight in July.

She was removed from her duties during the flight and tested positive for alcohol once they landed in Johannesburg.

The attendant appealed the decision to the Fair Work Commission, who this week dismissed her claims of unfair termination, the Brisbane Times reported.

Deputy President Geoffrey Bull ruled her sacking was reasonable.

The flight attendance argued that her decades of dedicated service should have been taken into account.

Mr Bull disagreed and said her length of employment was the most compelling factors out of the evidence that was submitted.

Mr Bull also argued that her job was: 'a safety sensitive position and for good reason was prohibited from consuming alcohol during a flight.'

Deputy President Geoffrey Bull said her was dismissal was perfectly reasonable (stock)
