NEW DELHI: DTH service provider, Tata Sky on Thursday, replying to one of its users, said that Namo TV is a Hindi news service , which provides "latest breaking news on national politics".

Tata Sky in a response to a query raised by a user on Twitter had said that the channel would provide breaking news on national politics in Hindi, calling it a Hindi news channel.

Further, several users asked Tata Sky why was NaMo TV in their list of channels even though they did not subscribe to it. Tata Sky explained that the channel is visible as a launch offer and cannot be removed.

The controversy on NaMo TV started following opposition raising questions about use of a television channel to promote Prime Minister's speeches and rallies despite Model Code of Conduct.

The Election Commission on Wednesday sought details of Namo TV from the information and broadcasting ministry after the issue was flagged by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party which wanted to know whether political parties having own channels was violative of the model code of conduct.

The channel, also called 'Content TV', carries the picture of Prime Minister Narendra Modi as its logo. It was launched ahead of Lok Sabha polls beginning April 11. It is available on various DTH and cable TV platforms.

It shows speeches of the PM and interviews of BJP leaders.
