Pit formed after heavy vehicles passed through the road

A portion of the newly laid Gandhiji Road is damaged causing inconvenience to road users.

The road is one of the busiest roads in the city as it connects Panneerselvam Park with Kalaimadu Silai. Presence of head post office, nationalised banks, private banks and commercial establishments keep the stretch busy through out the day. The road has been dug for laying main pipelines for the dedicated water supply scheme of the Corporation and the work is in progress.

Since dust emanated from the road troubling road users, particularly two-wheeler riders and pedestrians, there was a demand for tar-topping the damaged portion.

Though tar-topping was done, a pit developed on the road opposite the BSNL office. Traffic police personnel said that the pit was formed after heavy vehicles passed through the road. They said that due to loose soil beneath the road, a portion of the road had caved in.

Hence, a barricade has been placed at the spot to warn the motorists.
