Party workers close to DMK treasurer and Vellore Lok Sabha candidate Kathir Anand’s father Duraimurugan are inquiring to find out who leaked the information that led to the seizure of Rs 11.48 crore by I-T officials near Katpadi recently.

Vellore:
Such information would have been privy to only those in the core circle and hence enquiries are being held discreetly to ensure no unnecessary toes are stepped on, sources added. They revealed that following the raid, DMK candidates have taken steps to avoid such incidents in the future.
Common talk in both DMK and AIADMK circles was the searches might be an aggrieved senior party worker’s way of getting back at Duraimurugan for thrusting his son, who lacks political experience, into the poll arena, much to the detriment of the senior leaders who were denied the ticket.
“The DMK cadre do not like Kathir personally due to his overbearing attitude. Recently, a senior worker Sevoor Duraisamy, who is even older than Duraimurugan in the party, joined PMK as Kathir refused to allow him into the engineering college he manages as he was wearing a dhoti with DMK colours,” a source said.
Another question that anguished the DMK cadre was that whether the ordinary partymen would ever get a poll ticket, since Duraimurugan has won the Katpadi segment nine times since 1971, losing only twice in 1984 and 1991, and now that his son was taking over. In 1984, Duraimurugan was defeated by G Raghupathy and in 1991 by KM Kalaiselvi.
While Kathir restarted his campaigning after being interrupted, Duraimurugan was banking on the raids garnering sympathy for his son. But, whether this will come to their rescue during the polls is yet to seen.
What has unnerved them was the pin point accuracy with which the I-T officials, who a day earlier left Katpadi without seizing anything, returned 24 hours later and made the seizures.
