Concerning GMID, two of Toronto’s most iconic landmarks – the CN Tower and the 3D TORONTO Sign turned blue, the globally recognized colour for the day. In addition, the Princes’ Gate and the four entrance towers to Enercare Centre at Exhibition Place, along with South Building at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre became light blue on April 4.
Toronto will get an excellent opportunity to showcase itself as a destination for the growing conferences and events industry when the city will be hosting the Meeting Professionals International’s (MPI) World Education Congress. This signature event brings together meeting professionals from around the world at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from June 15-18, 2019.
“We as an industry are highlighting business events as an economic driver for Toronto during GMID while also supporting the thousands of people that work in tourism throughout the region,” said Tara Gordon, Vice-President, Business Events at Tourism Toronto.
The strength and opportunities found within the Canadian tourism industry were recently highlighted in the Federal Budget, which cited tourism as an economic engine for the country.
After a record-breaking 2018, Toronto is set to welcome a number of high profile events this year too.
In 2018, Toronto was named Canada’s top convention destination by Cvent, and consistently ranks among the top five in North America.
