16 candidates file nominations for two LS seats in Goa

A total of 16 candidates have filed nominations for two constituencies in

Eight candidates each have filed nominations from North and South constituencies.

The nominations will be scrutinised Friday.

Congress, BJP, and Goa Suraksha Manch have fielded candidates for the assembly bypolls.

Largest number of candidates -- 11 -- have filed nomination for constituency.

The election in Mapusa was necessitated due to the death of BJP MLA His son, Joshua D'Souza, is the BJP candidate, while the has fielded Sudhir Kandolkar.

Nine candidates have filed nominations for seat, including of the BJP, Mahadev Naik of and of MGP.

The election became necessary after Shirodkar left the to join the BJP.

For constituency, seven candidates have filed papers, including of BJP, whose resignation from Congress necessitated the election, while Congress has fielded Babi Bagkar.

The last date of withdrawal is April 8. The voting will take place on April 23.
