BENGALURU: In the first four years of the outgoing Lok Sabha’s tenure, the three leaders representing Bengaluru city in the Lok Sabha invested 26% of their MP local area development (MPLAD) funds towards drinking water and water infrastructure. The money spent under this head was Rs 14.4 crore.

The three MPs utilized 92% of the MPLAD funds (for the three constituencies), a report released by Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC), a group of eminent citizens, on Thursday stated. The committee also found no violation of norms in releasing of funds.

However, K Jairaj, secretary of B.PAC, said the committee did not audit or investigate whether the funds were properly used.

According to data collected by B.PAC, Bengaluru North MP DV Sadananda Gowda utilized 100% of funds, while Bengaluru Central MP PC Mohan utilized Rs 95% and Bengaluru South MP late Ananth Kumar 82% of the funds during 2014-2018.

Revathy Ashok, honorary managing trustee and CEO of B.PAC, said the report was prepared to bring in transparency and accountability in the utilization of public funds by elected representatives.
