Daltonganj: Hussainabad police on Thursday dug out the skeleton of a woman who went missing along with her four-year-old son for nearly a fortnight. The deceased has been identified as Sandhya Devi, a housewife residing at Hussainabad’s Ali Nagar locality. Her son is till untraceable, police said.

One Gautam Paswan, a resident of the same locality, has been detained on Wednesday. He has confessed to strangulating Sandhya Devi and then burying her in an arid land in Sarya Kund, Hussainabad subdivisional police officer Vijay Kumar said. Paswan and Sandhya had an affair, Kumar added.

Sandhya went missing on the March 23 night and her husband Someshwar Paswan lodged a FIR four days later, following which the police investigation began.

“On Gautam’s confession, the spot at Sarya Kund was dug out and the skeleton was retrieved. The husband of the deceased identified her from the clothes. A DNA test will also be done,” Kumar said.

Kumar said Gautam and Sandhya had affair while the latter’s husband was in Punjab for work. “Gautam got married on March 13, to which Sandhya objected. Sensing that his marriage could be hit , Gautam killed her on March 23 night,” the officer said. The police said the accused used a four-wheeler belonging to his family to transport the corpse and bury it at the secluded spot. “The vehicle has also been seized,” Kumar added.
