Rich treat of semi-classical songs for music lovers

Nagpur: Soothing tunes of semi-classical songs and light melodies encompassed in mellow voices of seasoned singers had the audience in thrall at a music programme titled ‘Laga chunri mein daag’, organized by Kanak Sur Mandir at Scientific Society Hall, on Thursday.
Datta Harkare, Sachin Untawale and Kishor Dakhale presented one hit song after the other that kept the spectators glued to their seats.
The programme was conceptualized by Kanaka Gadkari.
The show started and concluded on a note of patriotism with the three singers presenting ‘Vande Mataram’ and ‘Ae watan aabaad rahe tu’ from the movie Raazi.
The tunes of songs like ‘Sukh ke sab saathi’, ‘Chandan sa badan’, ‘Madhuban mein Radhika’, ‘Diye jalte hai’, ‘Saaz ho tum aawaz hu main’, ‘Jeevan se bhari teri aankhein’, ‘Ae meri zohra jabeen’, ‘O hansini’, ‘Jhanak jhanak tori baje payaliya’ and ‘Yeh jeevan hai’ struck a chord with the audience.
Presentation of songs like ‘Poochho na kaise’, originally sung by celebrated singer Manna Dey and ‘Rimjhim gire sawan’ by versatile Kishore Kumar, received accolades from the listeners.
‘Aayo kaha se Ghanshyam’, ‘Ek pyar ka nagma hai’, ‘Kaun aaya mere mann ke dware’, ‘Pal pal dil ke paas’, ‘Mann tarpat Hari darshan ko aaj’, ‘Mere naina sawan bhadon’ and ‘Mere mehboob qayamat hogi’ were the songs from the golden era of Bollywood that took the audience on a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
The title song of the karaoke evening ‘Laaga chunri mein daag’ was soulfully rendered by Harkare.
The presentation of songs was blended with interesting trivia by Harkare and video clips on the screen that had the crowd engrossed in the performances.
Gadkari said, “I had received a number of requests suggesting to host a show on semi-classical music. Hence, I went ahead with the idea and came up with this concept.”
