Defeat BJP call by Muslim law board member from Kerala
Ramu Bhagwat | TNN | Apr 4, 2019, 13:45 ISTNAGPUR: Indian National League president and member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, Prof Muhammad Sulaiman, has welcomed the Congress party’s election manifesto promising repeal of sedition law but is sceptical about the Rs72,000 per poorest family scheme as impractical.
The leader from Kerala was in the city to canvass for Suresh Mane, Bahujan Republican Socialist Party candidate contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Mane also has the backing of pro-Vidarbha grouping called Vidarbha Nirman Mahamanch. Sulaiman has urged the voters to vote against the BJP that goes by its communal agenda. He alleged that religious minorities, Dalits and oppressed sections of the society were living in a state of fear as protection provided by the Constitution was being taken away by BJP-led Narendra Modi government.
He said all BJP ministers. including Nitin Gadkari, contributed to the situation and so should not be re-elected.
Lashing out at the Congress, he said the party had misused the sedition law most to target minorities and factions like students fighting for genuine causes. “It is good the Congress has realized its mistake and wants to repeal the law if it comes to power,” said Sulaiman.
“Be it the mob lynchings by cow vigilantes, attacks on Dalits and minorities, the country had never seen such intolerance as in the last five years. Dissenting to majority is sought to be disseminated,” said Sulaiman.
“The Modi government has failed to provide internal security nor has managed situation on the borders. Had the air strikes across the border been successful why is there no let down in terror attacks and Pakistan aggression,” he asked. “Seven of our nine neighbouring countries are hostile and that speaks of India’s diplomatic failure,” said the INL chief. He appealed to people to vote for Modi’s ouster.
