This 1952 Porsche 356 Coupe is in desperate need of some a huge amount of TLC and looking for a new home. Is it, however, worth buying?

The first thing you may notice about the eBay listing is the vehicle’s ‘Buy It Now’ price; $82,500. That’s a serious amount of money, especially when you consider that this classic 356 isn’t operational and needs a comprehensive restoration to return to its former self.

The listing says that this Porsche 356 has been under the same ownership since the early 1970s and was originally painted in Fish Silver Grey, a stunning paint which, under certain lights, has a blue tinge. Sadly, the exterior is now caked in rust and, while it may have been owned by the same person for most of its life, it’s clearly been neglected quite badly.

Everything, from the exterior body panels to the wheels, is covered in rust. The car is also missing the original taillights and Porsche emblems.

The cabin is a similar story. Huge amounts of rust are visible across the floor and doors and all the interior surfaces clearly need to be stripped naked and re-upholstered. Returning this 356 back to its original condition will probably be a long, laborious, and expensive job. Making any possible restoration all the more difficult is the fact that the car needs a number of structural repairs and some serious powertrain work to get running again.

However, if this 356 is returned to its former glory for a (relatively) reasonable amount, it could prove to be quite a profitable project, as some 356s sell for in excess of $200,000.
