Allahabad: Officers and court staff who do not pause to allow judges to walk through high court galleries would now be penalized. The Allahabad high court administration has taken up the issue seriously and directed them to stop in their tracks whenever they see judges pass by and show respect. The notice has been issued by the high court registrar general, which made it clear that any deviation would be viewed seriously. This had been the tradition in the more than 100-year history of Allahabad High Court — display of respect whenever judges pass through galleries for a sitting-in or when they retire to their chambers.
Nowadays, it has been noticed by the high court administration that this graceful tradition was being given a skip by court staff and officers, who do not stop to allow judges to cross them. The high court administration believes this is a clear case of disrespect to judges. “To maintain the highest traditions of Allahabad HC, for which it’s known across the country, officers/officials shall stop in the galleries meant for movement of judges, whenever they see judges walking past and pay respect to them. Any deviation shall be viewed very seriously,” the registrar general’s order stated.
