Hazaribag: National general secretary of the CPI(ML), Dipankar Bhattacharya, on Thursday released the party manifesto in Hazaribag. Bhattacharya said the manifesto is about rescuing and rebuilding freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and Dalit movement leader Bhim Rao Ambedkar’s India.
He further said 2019 is a watershed moment for the country to safeguard its constitutional framework and democracy. “In the past five years, the country has been dragged by Modi government and RSS closer towards a fascist state. An epidemic of organised mob-lynching of India’s minorities, escalating brutal attacks on Dalits, ugly abuse, threats, arrests and assassinations of journalists and activists, intimidation and silencing of all but a small section of the media have now become the ‘new normal’. The autonomy and credibility of all institutions from CBI to RBI to judiciary are under attack. The PM has not held a single press conference in last five years on these,” he said quoting from the manifesto.
He added, “Our manifesto is focussed on pro-people shift in economic policies, policies to prevent corruption and punish the corrupt, strengthen people’s fundamental rights and job entitlements, ensure dignity and rights for all.”
Though Bhattacharya praised praised some points of the Congress manifesto and its Nyay scheme, he, however, said, “It is their lookout on how to arrange funds for providing them, if they are voted to power.”
Responding to a query regarding BJP’s constant demand of announcing the name of PM face by the opposition, he said, “As far as the post of PM is concerned for us, the elected MPs will choose one when the time comes. Every party who contests have its own mission and therefore it is not the duty of BJP to ask the opposition about its leadership.”
Bhattacharya went on to compare the Modi-Amit Shah rule as dictatorship and said, “The time has come to crush the BJP, if country is to be protected.”
CPI-ML is fighting on 22 seats across the country, including two in Jharkhand, four in Bihar and three in UP. The CPI-ML leader also said, “To beat BJP, we will support the alliances where Left has not fielded candidates.”
On Jharkhand’s mahagathbandhan, he said the Left parties walked out of the alliance due to the rigid attitude of Congress and JVM(P).
