Swiggy, Zomato get RMC notices

Rajkot: The Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday issued notices to online food delivery service providers Swiggy and Zomato directed them to furnish their food license under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
The notice was served at the branch offices of the to firms in Rajkot.
Both the firms had started services in Rajkot six months back.
According to RMC, as per the Food Safety and Standards Act it’s mandatory to obtain license for the transportation of food items.
RMC health officer Pankaj Rathod said, “Both Swiggy and Zomato have failed to produce the license for transportation of food items. Under the food safety act food packing and transportation should be under hygienic conditions.”
The civic body issued notice to the Rajkot branch office of Swiggy and Zomato in Limda Chowk.
Because of aggressive marketing and heavy discount both the service providers have become popular in Rajkot.
Meanwhile, RMC health officers also collected samples from 13 wholesale traders of various spices and sent them for testing.
