World’s first $703m NZ International Convention Centre, accessible to streets on all sides

According to John Coop, principal of Warren and Mahoney,  one of the architects, said that this will be the first convention centre in the world with no back door.Being open on all four sides to the street, the city that surrounds its highly urban site and presents an open face to all who approach.

 

 

However, the owner/ developer  of SkyCity Entertainment Group said that it will be enhancing the rejuvenation of the CBD’s western edge and will be a catalyst for more developmet in Victoria Quarter and Federal St.

 

More than 33,000 new international visitors will be attracted to New Zealand after it starts running and will be garnering $90 million of economic benefits to New Zealand annually along with 800 jobs.

 

 

Due to the hotel development there will be creation of 150 jobs.

 

The total gross floor area is 85,000sq m and is one of the biggest building projects undertaken in Auckland.

 

The largest purpose-built convention will have a capacity of hosting about 3000 people and one –off events for 4000 in its grand exhibition floor.

 

 

Its hall will be five times larger than the current largest exhibition hall in the country which is the existing Convention Centre’s New Zealand Room, in the SkyCity property between Albert St and Federal St.

 

The column free hall has a 9m stud that can be further configured into three individual halls  which can be accessed from the surrounding street network.

 

The place will be a hub of activities as there will be theater and plenary spaces along with area for tradeshows, banqueting facilities.

It will offer an extensive city views and the City Rail Link’s Aotea Station.
