2 lion cubs die at Barda gene pool centre

Rajkot: Two lion cubs born on April 1 at Satvirda Lion Gene Pool Centre of Barda Sanctuary in Porbandar district died on Wednesday night. The cubs were born under captive breeding.
The centre has four lions — two males and two females.
According to forest officials, it is normal for a lioness to carry a new born cub in her mouth. However, in the present case the cubs got injured. Forest officials explained that this happens sometimes to first time mothers of cat family.
The postmortem conducted at Sakkarbaug zoo revealed that one of the cubs had received injury on the chest while the other had injuries on the head. The forest staff was giving them outside milk and the cubs seemed healthy after birth.tnn
