To reduce paper work, the State government has announced that all matriculation school managements can apply online for their recognition as well as renewal of recognition this year.

Government of Tamil Nadu
Chennai:
School managements of matriculation schools can also apply online for permission to start more classes and to upgrade to a higher secondary school level.
The government’s move comes against the backdrop of several complaints that the standard process to recognise schools consumes more time.
A senior official from the Directorate of Matriculation Schools told DT Next that the manual method made it difficult for officials to track the data. “Therefore, it was decided to go online”, he added.
The online application data would be automatically sent to the respective Inspector of Matriculation schools, who will then visit the schools and forward the schools’ request to the directorate to issue orders.
The official pointed out that the plan to introduce online application for recognition was mooted way back in 2017 itself. “Though the Government Order was issued in 2018, it would be implemented this year”, he added.
“It will be left to the competent authority to reject the application of a new school for recognition through online itself if the official considers that any one of the conditions have not been fulfilled”, the official said.
He said the competent authority to grant permission to open a private matriculation school or to upgrade an existing one will be the Director. Earlier, matriculation schools were under the control of the Universities of Madras and Madurai.
Recognition certificate and renewal certificate will be issued immediately online. At present, there are 4,268 matriculation schools providing education to 39,18,221 children.
