The flying squad monitoring the enforcement of model code of conduct seized 22 kg of gold and 15 kg of silver near Vazhapadi on Thursday.

According to the officials, the flying squad in Yercaud Assembly constituency under the Kallakurichi Parliamentary constituency was involved in vehicle check near Karipatti toll plaza here around 4 a.m. on Thursday.

The officials stopped a logistics vehicle heading towards Salem.

Documents

On search, they seized 22 kg of gold and 15 kg of silver from the car as the driver and other occupants did not possess necessary documents.

Election officials handed over the seized goods to Income Tax officials. They were reportedly carrying the goods to be delivered to a private jewellers in Salem.

The officials said that the seized goods would be returned once necessary documents were produced.
