Porsche Cayenne Turbo Drag Races Lamborghini Urus – And The Winner Is…

The Russians have developed a specific taste for drag racing high-end SUVs, and two of the latest to have been subjected to a 1/2-mile (0.8 km) run were the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

You don’t have to be an anorak to know that the balance tilts in favor of the Urus. Despite sharing some nuts and bolts with the Cayenne and other large SUVs made by the Volkswagen Group, its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 produces 641 hp (650 PS / 478 kW) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm) of torque. It hits the 62 mph (100 km/h) mark in 3.6 seconds after setting off and has a 190 mph (305 km/h) top speed.

The latest Cayenne Turbo has a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 as well, only with less power: 542 hp (550 PS / 404 kW) and 568 lb-ft (770 Nm) of torque. The German SUV goes from rest to 62 mph (0-100 km/h) in 4.1 seconds, but fit it with the optional Sport Chrono Package and the time will drop by two tenths. Top speed is 178 mph (286 km/h) – but, like the Urus’, is irrelevant in this case.

On paper, then, the Urus wins this race hands down. But does this translate in the real world, or, more accurately, the drag strip? That’s for you to find out by watching the video below.
