NAGPUR: People's Republican Party (PRP) leader Jaideep Kawade was arrested and released on bail by Lakadganj police on Wednesday after being booked for making derogatory remarks on Union minister and BJP leader Smriti Irani at an election rally on April 1 at Bagadganj.

The 32-year-old son of party MLC Jogendra Kawade can be heard in video making distasteful comments about Irani's demeanor in public, sitting close to other leaders.

Women members of BJP, led by mayor Nanda Jichhkar, had gone to meet the city police chief BK Upadhyay on Wednesday demanding action against Jaideep and Nagpur Congress candidate Nana Patole. But the city police had registered the offence, made the arrest and released the accused on bail before their visit . Jichkar said making a slur on the 'bindi' was tantamount to outraging the modesty of Indian women.
