Tainted PI booked for stalking woman lawyer
Surat: A police inspector, who is under suspension since May last year, was booked for allegedly stalking a 29-year-old woman lawyer. Pandesara police booked II Shaikh, following a complaint lodged by the woman. Shaikh, was suspended after he was caught in a Rs five crore bribery case in May 2018, was stalking the lawyer since 2016.
He is accuse of making calls to her, sending messages and emails pressurizing her to marry him. Shaikh had separated from his wife few months ago due to some disputes, sources in police informed. The complainant got married a year ago.

Shaikh was posted in the intelligence bureau (IB) in the city for a short period in 2016. It was during this stint that he came in contact with the woman. They were members in a Whatsapp group and gradually started exchanging message on personal chat as well. Later, they even started talking over phone.

Meanwhile, Shaikh got transferred out of city but he remained in touch with the woman. The woman then stopped answering his calls but Shaikh continued to call her using the phones of his friends and kept pressurizing her to marry him.


Fed up constant harassment, she approached the Pandesara police.


Shaikh was posted in CID crime 2016 and was investigating a Rs 190 crore tax evasion case against a company manufacturing paan masala. During investigation, he demanded Rs five crore from one of the accused for not arresting him. Later, he reduced the demand to Rs two crore. The accused in tax evasion case later approached a court in Ahmedabad and requested investigation against Shaikh for demanding bribe. Following court order, an offence was registered against Shaikh by Anti-Corruption Bureau and he was later arrested. Shaikh spent few months in jail as well in this case.


“We are not aware about Shaikh’s current location but he will be arrested soon. We are collecting evidences against him,” said a police officer at Pandesara police station.
