Chennai: Brace up for hotter days ahead as mercury moves north

CHENNAI: As temperatures in several interior districts have crossed 40°C or either inching closer, brace up for the rising mercury, as weathermen has forecast maximum temperatures to go up by two to four degrees above normal in a few places in the state including Chennai in the coming days.


According to the regional meteorological centre, Chennai, maximum temperatures likelt to continue to be 2°C to 4°C above normal over regions like Chenna and and its nehgouring Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Vellore, Tiruvanmallai as well as interior districts like Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Tiruchy, Karur, Dindigul and Madurai. With winds blowing from south-southwest, experts said the hot breeze from the interior districts, which is recording temperatures above 40°C, is slowly shifting to north Tamil Nadu and coastal regions.


On Monday, Nungambakkam weather station recorded a maximum of 33.8°C with a humidity as high as 72% while Meenambakkam recorded 36.1°C with a humidity of 65%. Weathermen forecast dry weather to prevail over Tamil Nadu till April 5. As for Chennai, the sky condition for the next 48 hours is likely to be partly cloudy during morning hours. Maximum and minimum temperatures are likely ot be around 36 and 27°C.
