MUZAFFARPUR: At least eight people, including two minor boys, were injured after a fairground ride collapsed at Kazi Mohammadpur in Muzaffarpur town late on Monday evening. The ride, named symphony, was several feet above the ground when it collapsed.

The injured people were immediately rushed to different private and government hospitals in the town. The condition of two minor boys, who received multiple fractures, is stated to be critical.

Angry locals ransacked other rides and swings at the Disneyland fair to protest the incident. They also thrashed the employees of the company which had installed the symphony ride.

The situation was brought under control after sub-divisional police officer (east) Kundan Kumar and deputy SP (town) Mukul Kumar Ranjan reached the fairground with cops from three police stations. The police had to use mild force to quell the agitators as they were not ready to listen to the officials.

Muzaffarpur DM Alok Ranjan Ghosh a team had been set up to inquire into the matter. “The team, led by SDO (east) Kundan Kumar, will probe the incident. I have asked the SDO to find out the reason behind the breakdown of the ride. He will submit the report within two days,” the DM said.

The SDO said initial investigations revealed that the ride collapsed due to a technical snag. “I have sought all the certificates from the company which they had procured to install the rides. The other technical aspects will also be looked into,” he added.
