Motivate youth to vote, block-level officers told
TNN | Apr 3, 2019, 07:14 ISTLudhiana: Additional deputy commissioner Jagraon-cum-nodal officer SVEEP activities Neeru Katyal Gupta during a meeting on Tuesday directed all block-level officers that they should motivate youth as well as first-time voters to exercise their right to vote in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Besides, special arrangements should be made for persons with disabilities at all polling stations so that everyone gets a chance to vote.
On Tuesday, a new initiative was also organised by the district administration as voter awareness activity was conducted at a factory of a corporate house located on GT Road.
She also directed all officials present in the meeting to organise awareness programmes in all assembly constituencies from 5pm to 6pm on every Sunday and also asked them to educate residents about the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) as well as VVPAT machines. She also asked officials to ensure maximum participation of people in these awareness programmes.
Katyal also said to attract the youth, a mobile stand, selfie stand and signature boards should be installed, besides quiz competitions related to elections, ‘nukkad natak’ and cultural programmes, etc. should also be organised. She directed all officials to organise at least five to eight awareness programmes should be organised in each assembly constituency so that maximum participation of voters was ensured in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. She stated that the BLOs and officials should intimate the residents about these functions in advance so that maximum number of people could participate.
Neeru Katyal Gupta stated that the main aim of SVEEP activities was to motivate all eligible persons to get themselves registered as voters and also to exercise their right to vote. She also reviewed the progress of setting up model polling stations as well as ‘sakhi’ polling stations, which will be manned by only women staff.
