Mumbai: The Western Railway (WR) has claimed that it has set new records in commercial earnings and scrap sale in recently concluded Financial Year 2018-19. The WR also achieved the first position in punctuality in the entire Indian Railways network for the said period.
A press release issued by WR CPRO Ravinder Bhakar stated it has set a best ever record of Rs 537 crore in scrap sale and commercial earnings of Rs 18,225 crore, besides securing the first position in punctuality with 91.46 per cent, in all Railway zones. WR also achieved a loading of 83.48 million tonnes last fiscal, which is 6.8 million tonnes more than FY 2017-18.
“WR has surpassed most of the targets set by Railway Board both in passenger, freight and non-fare revenue segments. The total earnings for the year 2018-19 is Rs 1,873 crore which is more than the previous year and Rs 674 crore ahead of the Board’s target.
It also stood best ever in ticket checking earnings reaching Rs 130 crore, which is 20.08 per cent more than the last year and best ever performance till now,” it stated. WR also achieved 100 per cent implementation of cashless payment option for passengers. A total of 950 POS counters that cover the entire Mumbai suburban network and other major stations of WR are functioning for cashless ticketing, it said.
“For the safety of passengers, internal technical auditing was carried out by a team of Railway officers & IIT officers in the form of repairing of staircases and decks and steel members of FOBs (Foot Over Bridges) and girders and piers of ROBs (Road Over Bridges),” it stated.
WR has upgraded the rake of SuratMuzaffarpur Express under “Project Utkrisht”. It is currently in the process of upgrading 20 more rakes,” the release added. “To ensure the safety and security of the passengers, WR eliminated 735 level crossings, including 638 unmanned level crossings on the broad gauge route,” it added.
