COIMBATORE: A Class XI student and his tuition teacher were arrested in Pollachi on Tuesday for stealing six cycles.
They sold two of the cycles and kept the remaining four with them.
Police said that the student began stealing cycles due to a “thrill to see what would happen.” The tuition teacher joined him as he was struggling to make ends meet. All the six cycles they stole have been recovered.
The student began stealing a cycles a few weeks ago. A couple of days later, the boy boasted about it to his 22-year-old tuition teacher, Parthiban, who decided to join the teenager.
“Parthiban wanted to join the boy, so he could sell the cycles and earn some money. The teacher did not have a proper job and was facing a financial crisis. He promised to give the boy some money he makes buy selling stolen cycles,” said sub-inspector of Mahalingapuram police station Sivakumar. “The boy’s family is financially stable and was not in any trouble,” said Sivakumar.
Police received a complaint on Saturday after they stole a bicycle of a student.
“Based on a complaint filed by the cycle owner’s father, we went to the location of the crime and checked footages from CCTV cameras. The footages clearly showed the boy stealing the cycle,” said Sivakumar. “We identified the boy through neighbours and picked him up. We found this cycle and two other cycles in Parthiban’s house,” he added.
The teenager had lent one of the cycles to a friend. “We recovered that cycle also,” said the sub-inspector. “The two stolen cycles have also been recovered,” he added.
