ALLAHABAD: Operations of 10 sewage treatment plants (STPs), including three upcoming ones and 15 pumping stations in Allahabad district would be taken over by private firm Adani Enterprises from next month.
A letter in this context has already been sent by the Ganga Pollution Unit to the private firm for taking over operations and maintenance of the sewage treatment set up. The STPs and sewage pumping stations would be operated and maintained under the government initiative of ‘One City, One Operator’ for a period of 15 years.

“The private firm will start the operations by May 22 for the next 15 years”, said General Manager, Ganga Pollution Unit, Prayagraj PK Agarwal.

The STPs and pumping stations include STP at Rajapur, Numayadih, Kodra, Salori, Pinght, Naini, etc. Besides, all 15 sewage pumping stations would be managed by engineers and other staff of private firm while the cleaning of the drains would be maintained by local contractors.

Out of the Rs 908 crore to be paid to Adani Enterprises for managing sewage treatment of the city of Sangam, Rs 300 crore would be used for maintenance of the STPs and pumping stations.

Currently, the city is generating 300 Million Litres (MLD) of sewage water every day which passes through 1,000 kilometer underground sewage pipeline, 850 kilometer of which was laid in city limits under JNNURM. The city presently has a network of 64 big and small drains which carry the effluent of the city to these STPs.
