After making city number one in cleanliness, it is time to make efforts in making it number one in women voting. These thoughts were expressed by women at women voter awareness programme held at Labh Mandapam on Tuesday evening. The objective was to create awareness among women voters and motivate them to vote in large numbers. The voting will take place in Indore district on May 19.
Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shri Janak Palta McGilligan who was also the chief guest, said India is the world’s most democratic nation where polling assumes great importance. “The women are a wheel of a chariot of the family and also a wing of two-winged bird. In this holy city of Ahilya Mata, women have to be number one in the country in the matter of voting,” she said. Neha Meena, CEO of district panchayat and SVEEP nodal officer, said voting is important in democracy.
All women must exercise this right. Senior Superintendent of Police Ruchi Vardhan Mishra said all women must use voting right, which is “our national obligation”. Dr Jyoti Bindal said women got right to vote when India became independent. “In last Lok Sabha election, only 57 per cent of women voted in the district, which was a matter of concern,” she said.
Surabhi Manocha Chaudhary, corporate trainer, said there should be feeling ‘Matdan ki taiyarri hai, Nar se Aage Nari Hai’ and women should live with this feeling on voting day. “Democracy is incomplete without women’s vote,” she said. SVEEP icon and singer Palak Muchhal said election is a festival of democracy where participation of “men and women is must”.
