Police are searching for the person believed to have activated a personal locator beacon off the coast of Cape Peron this morning after an abandoned kayak was found in the water.

The Rockingham Volunteer Sea Rescue Group, Water Police, RAC Rescue Helicopter and police helicopter were sent out after the beacon was activated just after 11am on Wednesday.

A kayak was found abandoned during the search, and the emergency crews continue to scour the area.

The identity of the personal location beacon’s owner has been established by police and officers are trying to contact them and check on their welfare, as well as establish who was using the kayak this morning and if that person is missing.
