Surat: The life story of Bechar Kakadiya, a diamond artisan-turned-trader, has been about bitter marital discord and financial disputes which led him to commit two brutal murders.
After killing Yash Doshi, Kakadiya was planning to kill his second brother-in-law Jayesh Ghelani who lives in Adajan area. Kakadiya had already served a life term in jail for killing his first brother-in-law in 1999 . The murder was a fall-out of a bitter marital dispute between him and his wife and a financial dispute. Interestingly, he had killed him in the same gruesome manner as he had killed Doshi.

As a diamond worker, Kakadiya had used acid in some processes and was aware about its lethal effects.

Kakadiya told police that had planned to commit suicide after killing Ghelani and cops also recovered some pesticide tablets from him.

Due to frequent quarrels with his wife, Kakadiya had even consumed poison and attempted suicide before several years. He was hospitalized for 10 days. “When he was hospitalized, Kakadiya had handed over a packet of diamonds to his wife and asked her to keep it safely. His wife in turn gave it to her brother. Later, when Kakadiya asked him to return the packet, his brother-in-law refused and that led to bitter dispute among them,” said police.

In fact, soon after the murder, he had tried to kill other members of his in-laws families with acid, but they survived. Multiple offences of attack and attempt to murder were registered against Kakadiya in different police stations.

“Kakadiya wanted to kill Ghelani as he believed that he had to spend 18 years in jail after his in-laws went back on their promise of striking compromise and testified against him in the court. By killing Ghelani, he wanted to avenge the 18 Diwalis and New Years that he had spent in jail,” said said K B Zala, police inspector, Pandesara police station.

“By arresting him, police succeeded in preventing him from committing another murder,”
