BBMP makes submission in HC

The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Wednesday told the Karnataka High Court that eight metres of approach roads around K.R. Market have been cleared by removing illegal structures and evicting persons who had illegally occupied these spaces, and fire tenders can now easily move around the market complex.

Besides, all the encroachments in the passages of the market, illegal extensions put up in front of shops and encroachments on roads leading to the market from Chickpet metro station have been removed, the BBMP submitted in its status report.

A division bench comprising acting Chief Justice L. Narayana Swamy and Justice P.S. Dinesh Kumar had on March 27 directed the BBMP to submit a status report after removing all encroachments as per the instruction of the Fire and Emergency Services Department.

In the last hearing, the bench had pulled up the BBMP for running the market complex without complying with mandatory fire safety norms and without obtaining a clearance certificate from the Fire and Emergency Services Department.

The bench, which is hearing a PIL petition complaining about illegal shops in the market complex, had adjourned further hearing while directing the State government to file its report.
