Mohali cop opens fire outside in-laws' house in Ambala, shoots self
Jaskaran Singh | TNN | Apr 3, 2019, 20:36 ISTAMBALA: As per information, a Mohali cop identified as Jasbir Singh opened fire and shot himself into the abdomen due to an ongoing marital dispute outside his in-laws' house in Maheshnagar area of Ambala Cantonment here on Thursday late night.
The injured cop has been referred to PGI, Chandigarh for treatment and the district police have registered a case against him on the complaint of his wife Gurpreet Kaur, resident of New Colony, Maheshnagar, Ambala.
As per the FIR registered, Gurpreet stated, “My marriage was solemnised with Jasbir Singh, resident of village Shyam Khera, district Muktsar Sahib, Punjab on February 11, 2018. My husband Jasbir works with Punjab Police in Mohali district. Initially, for two-three months everything was going fine but then Jasbir started taunting and harassing me. I had informed my parents and brothers about the harassment by my husband, after which we got separated as per our community panchayat terms on January 13, 2019, and I started living with my parents in Ambala. Nearly 3-4 days ago Jasbir called on the mobile phones of my brothers and father and threatened that he would do something that my entire family would have to suffer. On April 2, at around 10.30 pm, Jasbir came in his Scorpio car outside our residence in Ambala and started shouting and calling me and my brothers. After some time, Jasbir opened fire into the air and started asking us to come out else he would shoot himself. Jasbir then shot two more fires into his body and we saw him bleeding after which we informed the police.”
Maheshnagar police have registered a case against Jasbir under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Maheshnagar SHO inspector Ajaib Singh said, “The accused Jasbir had shot himself twice with his licensed pistol and is undergoing treatment at PGI, Chandigarh where his condition is said to be out of danger. On the complaint of Gurpreet, we have registered a case against him and further investigation is on.”
