Chandigarh: Man attempts suicide after stabbing woman in head

CHANDIGARH: A 22-year-old woman was allegedly given poison and then stabbed in head in a park of Moti Nagar area merely 200 meters away on Wednesday morning. It is alleged that the woman was stabbed by her lover who also later consumed poison at his house in village Issowal of Mullanpur. Both woman and man are presently admitted in different private hospitals. According to police the accused is a baptized Sikh and he used his kirpan to stab woman.
The injured woman is pursuing Bachelor in Dental Surgery at a private dental college in Moti Nagar. The woman's family lives in village Issowal of Mullanpur while she was living in city in a PG in Sector 39, Chandigarh road. The accused Kulwinder Singh, 26, is a pathi in a Gurudwara in village Issowal.
The Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP- Industrial area A) Harjinder Singh said, "The woman and man are neighbours in village Issowal. The prima facie investigation has revealed that the duo was in relationship since long. However their families were not approving their relation which was the reason of their strain relations."
"The woman's exams were on however today was holiday, therefore the accused called her and asked to meet at a park in Moti Nagar. There the accused first gave her poison and then stabbed her. The accused is a baptized Sikh and he used his kirpan to attack woman. The woman was stabbed thrice in her head" added ACP.
Thereafter the accused escaped form spot. Meanwhile some safai karamcharis of Municipal Corporation saw the woman with froth coming out of her mouth and head injury. They immediately sounded police that further took woman to civil hospital. After a few hours the doctors referred woman to Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH), Brown road.
Further ACP Harjinder told, "The accused after fleeing form spot reached at his house. There Kulwinder also consumed poison. His family rushed him to hospital where he is undergoing treatment. The police booked Kulwinder under sections 307 (attempt to murder) and 328 (causing hurt by means of poison etc with intend to commit an offence) of IPC.
The condition of woman and man is stated to be critical.
