Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming felt his side has come on top in crunch moments in the opening phase of the Indian Premier League 2019.

MS Dhoni-led CSK has come up trumps against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals thus far. With an unbeaten beginning, it (six points) sits on top of the points table. “It has been a good start. I won’t say they were dominating performances but just good, hard-fought wins. I was pretty pleased with our last performance against Rajasthan in particular, in how we got ourselves out of trouble. That is always pleasing from a coach’s point of view,” added the former Kiwi captain.
Super Kings was tottering at 27 for three against Royals and its skipper Dhoni steadied the ship with an unbeaten 75. The talisman also rung in the changes in the second innings and powered CSK to an eight-run win. “I thought the last innings he (Dhoni) played was one of the good ones, and I have seen a lot. But his composure, his skill at the end of the innings helped us win the game. That was the dominating factor between the two teams. Again, his presence, his calm and his influence over the team has been consistent through the years. It does have a big effect when the players turn up and know he is going to be consistent rather than up-and-down depending on form.”
“By no means we are anywhere near where we want to be. But we are just again winning some key moments with some experienced players standing up, which is a good sign,” said Fleming ahead of the clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium here on Wednesday.
