Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now arrange books including novels and textbooks for the needy, ranging from students to novel lovers. BMC will only pay for the maintenance of the books. These books will be placed in the libraries run by the BMC and donated to schools and institutes, too, for free. The aim of the initiative is to ensure the books are not sold at a throw away price when used by residents, instead books are donated and reused by the needy.
It would save them from bearing extra expense. The BMC will install boxes at over 25 spots including MP Nagar, new market, Nehru Nagar, Kolar, Shyamla hills, Ibrahimpura, Bairagarh, Lalghati, Airport Road, Jaatkhedi, Saket Nagar and other prime locations of Bhopal for collecting the books. After collection the books will be put in libraries or donated after binding.
BMC will lead the initiative with the help of an NGO that has been working in the field. The books of private publishers remain a costly affair for many students. This initiative will improve their access to the books. Not only this, novel lovers and or aspirants of government jobs will also benefit from this initiative. BMC commissioner B Vijay Dutta said, “We have seen people disposing off their used books but now these books will be used by the needy.”
