Minister for School Education, Youth and Sports Development K.A. Sengottaiyan has said that employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) would be increased from the present 100 days to 365 days.
Canvassing votes for AIADMK candidate M.S.M. Anandan in Tiruppur Lok Sabha constituency at Periyar Nagar in Anthiyur on Tuesday, he said that wages for the workers under the scheme were not paid for the past few months and added that the issue was taken up with the Central government and their outstanding wages will be settled within two days.
He said that steps would be taken to provide guaranteed employment for the workers throughout the year.
