In the midst of blink-and-miss fashion weeks, Vogue proposes a unique salon style of presentations by way of Vogue Atelier. The successful series continued this season of the property with none other than seasoned bridal couture designer Tarun Tahiliani in the city of Kolkata, West Bengal. Hosted in association with the Embassy Group, the evening was a part of a five-city tour that will see such invite-only designer showcases.
Tahiliani is known for bringing new-age couture that is feather light, meticulously constructed and crystal encrusted, to a new-age millennial bride who puts comfort above all else. In a three part intimate presentation, the couturier showcased a spectrum of light ready-to-wear to heavier bridal couture. Guests were treated to a three-course meal, where models walked alongside the dinner tables with each course, allowing those in attendance to admire the designer’s work up close. The first instalment of the show saw Tahiliani’s jersey drapes in liquid metals and lighter colour tones, which catered to the needs of a bride’s trousseau as well as those of the wedding guests. The second segment saw heavier lehengas that were perfect for a sangeet. And at the very end, Tahiliani brought out his sculpted lehengas in a traditional palette of red and ivory, which were carefully crafted keeping in mind a bride’s wants for the wedding ceremony.“Lighter surface textures allow movement—a swish and sway that brides love. It’s all about carrying our heritage into a modern way of life,” said Tahiliani of his Egypt-inspired collection where comfort was key.
Reeza Sebastian, senior vice president of residential business and Natalia Virwani of the Embassy Group, Arjun Mehra, chief business officer, Condé Nast India, and Shahnaz Siganporia, associate editor, Vogue India, hosted the evening. Guests enjoyed a closer glimpse of The House of MBJ jewellery, cocktails featuring Hennessy, a lavish three course spread courtesy ITC Sonar and floral decorations by SB events.
