Sex determination racket busted
tnn | Apr 4, 2019, 04:41 ISTRajkot: A woman homoeopathic doctor was arrested on Tuesday night for allegedly conducting sex determination tests on pregnant women and performing abortion at her clinic in Hudco Quarters on Kotharia Road in Rajkot.
Police said the accused, Dr Heena Tilada (43), used to conduct illegal sex determination tests on 3-4 patients out of the total she examined daily.
“Dr Tilada used to charge her each patient between Rs 20,00 and Rs 25,000 for sex determination test and perform each abortion for between Rs 30,000 and Rs 40,000. As Dr Tilada is a homoeopathic doctor, she cannot conduct sex determination test and perform abortions. Our investigation revealed that she had illegally procured a wireless sonography machine on-line which she did not register with the state health department,” said H M Gadhvi, inspector with Rajkot crime branch.
“After we came to know that Dr Tilada had been practising illegally for the past 17 years, we sent two women cops decoyed as patients to her clinic and recorded her conversation about sonography and abortion. When we raided her clinic, a sex determination test was already under way,” added Gadhvi.
The crime branch produced Dr Tilada before a court here on Wednesday evening with the demand of procuring her seven-day remand.
