Teenager stages abduction for luxury car
Sanjay Yadav | TNN | Apr 3, 2019, 07:56 ISTGurgaon: A Krishna Colony resident and Class 12 student staged his own abduction after his family refused to get him a car, said police. The 18-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and produced in a city court. He is now out on bail.
Police said that on March 29, the teenager left home for cricket practice on his scooty. He allegedly abandoned the vehicle near a temple and took an auto for Rajiv Chowk. From there, he reached Dharuhera in a bus, and then procceeded to Manesar. There, he paid a rag picker Rs 500 to pose as his kidnapper and call his mother, demanding a ransom of Rs 3 crore for his release.
His mother approached police and an FIR was registered under Section 365 (kidnap) of IPC at the New Colony police station. On March 29 evening, traffic cops found the teenager in the Manesar area.
Police started suspecting the teenager as he initially insisted that he did not remember anything about the abduction but then blurted out that his scooty was parked near Chintpurni temple in Sector 5. He even led police to the spot and when they started questioning him, he spilled the beans.
“Initially, the boy concocted a story of not being able to remember anything. Some medical tests were carried out and we found out that he was not drugged and did not sustain any injury. He then started changing his statement, which made us suspicious. We started interrogationg him and took him to the crime scene to recreate what had happened. There, he broke down and confessed his desire for a luxury car,” said the investigating officer.
After his confession, the teenager was booked under sections 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), and 201 (hiding the evidence) of IPC.
“He confessed to coming up with the plan and said that no other person was involved. The investigation is on,” said police spokesperson Subhash Boken.
