A bus for snacks lovers in Ooty
Shantha.Thiagarajan | Apr 4, 2019, 04:51 ISTUdhagamandalam: Ooty has finally got a ‘Route Master’, but with a culinary twist. The vehicle designed in line with the vintage bus from London will serve yummy, crispy snacks to tourists.
Conceptualized and designed by two enthusiastic women entrepreneurs, the ‘Food Bus’, a first-of-its-kind in the city, has been parked inside the Research Centre for Tribal Culture (RCTC) on the Garden Road. According to the owners, it is a snack point for tourists.
Nagina Reddy, one of the partners says, “We wanted to provide hygienic snack to tourists in a novel way. While we were discussing and searching for ideas, London’s Route Master vehicle attracted us, hence we decided to go ahead with it. In a way, it connects us back to the British legacy.”
About the bus, the women say it was made in Ahmedabad and drew inspiration from 1967 model of the Route Master- A trolley bus. A place of about 600 square feet was taken on rental basis in RCTC complex to park the Food Bus.
Ask about the menu, Rama Sasmal, another partner says, “We have items from various cuisines. Desi fried chicken, apple fritter, corn and potato croquettes top the list and bunny chow, a South African dish is our specialty.”
According to Nagina, all the sauces used for the menu are homemade and buns are made on special order and wholesome.
