An idol of Lord Damodar placed in the palanquin

A riot of colour and celebration

Carrying forward the annual tradition, devotees of Lord Damodar from all over Goa celebrated Gulalotsav, a part of Shigmotsav festivities at the Shri Damodar Temple at Zambaulim.

As part of the week-long celebrations, a palki (palanquin) carrying the idol of Lord Damodar is taken out in a grand procession while devotees en route splash handfuls of ‘gulal’ onto the deity and smear each others’ faces with colour.

As a mark of respect, on the occasion, all commercial activity in the city of Margão comes to a standstill, shops pull down their shutters, and devotees visit Zambaulim to pay obeisance to the Lord.
